WHO WE SUPPORT
The U.S. National Team has achieved success at past Olympics and World Championships but can only invite a very limited number of athletes and coaches to its remaining development facilities or annual selection camps and has also historically had to prioritize certain boat categories, leaving little to no resources for others.
Recent news indicates some increased flexibility and respect for a broader cohort of rowers who are already at or near the international elite level. However, the sport's U.S. governing body still faces its persistent challenge of juggling multiple priorities with limited resources and tight short-range calendars. This means that a robust network of alternative training venues and resources is now even more essential for U.S. athlete development, especially for those rowers transitioning from college and U23 to the pre-elite level.
Fortunately, there are high performance groups (HPGs) hosted by independent training centers and rowing clubs around the country. OneWorld supports independent and club-based HPGs, because they offer long-term development pathways for more athletes. Independent and club-based HPGs are of particular importance for:
OneWorld provides annual financial grants to non-profit training centers and clubs including, in 2023, the HPGs listed below. OneWorld grants are not tied to any individual athlete or coach. Our support for the HP community also includes advocacy, assistance with recruiting, and connections to wellness & performance experts including physical therapists, sport psychologists, and sports dietitians.
